We recently discovered that growth factor inhibition completely eliminates opioid tolerance. We also discovered an important reason why opioids are ineffective against neuropathic pain and demonstrated a mechanistic link between pain and tolerance. However, we still do not fully understand the mechanisms underlying these remarkable effects. There are many opportunities for creative, driven individuals to make seminal contributions early in their careers. We are attacking these problems using Drosophila and mouse genetics, signal transduction assays, proteomics, as well as advanced behavioral and neuroanatomical techniques. We interact with stimulating collaborators in a high caliber research environment at the world-renowned Pittsburgh Center for Pain Research.
Post-docs, Graduate and Undergraduate students and anybody who is motivated are welcome to apply.
